AEO and GEO: a practical content review

Published 6 October 2026 · CANSEO editorial

Make your explanations clear, verifiable, and easy to navigate when readers discover them through search or AI tools.

Define the question clearly

AEO and GEO are often used to describe visibility in answer systems and generative search. For a publisher, a useful starting point is a page that answers a specific question with accurate, readable information. Add a concise explanation first, then provide the context needed to apply it.

Use headings for real subtopics. Do not turn every sentence into a question-and-answer block merely because an AI system might read the page.

Separate facts from examples

Identify the source for factual claims and label hypothetical examples. When guidance depends on a location or date, make that dependency visible. Readers should be able to distinguish your interpretation from a policy or official requirement.

For first-hand experience, explain the method and limits. A small internal test can be useful, but it should not be presented as a universal result.

Keep technical fundamentals in place

Ensure that public pages can be crawled, that useful text is available in HTML, and that internal links lead to supporting information. Structured data should describe content that is actually visible. Do not add fake reviews or unsupported organisation details.

Different systems retrieve and display material differently. A checklist cannot guarantee that an AI answer will cite a page. Treat promised placements or guaranteed mentions with caution.

Review the source material

Use Google’s generative AI search guidance as a current reference for Google-specific questions. Check documentation directly before adopting a claim about eligibility or measurement.

Build a correction process for your own pages. Keep an owner, review date, and source list for time-sensitive material. Clear content is easier to maintain when its evidence is recorded.
